In a world where blockbusters come and go, FST Improv entertains with an unforgettable, original, and fully improvised motion picture! The cast of We’re Doomed will perform an improvised horror movie based on a title provided by the audience! We’ll leave the fancy equipment behind as we use unique staging, special effects and onstage acrobatics to recreate the excitement and magic of the silver screen. You’ll even get to see improvised previews of upcoming attractions.

Out of Bounds is the heart of the FST Improv Winter Season. Eight teams comprised of our top improvisers will be competing for your attention, love, and points! The show is a fast-paced, no holds barred improv show featuring five of the best improv comedians of the Suncoast for a night of games, scenes, and skillful storytelling. No rules. No boundaries. Just spectacular comedy and incredible improvisation.

Inspired by one location and three random notes on the keyboard, the cast of FST Improv’s Treble in Paradise creates a fully improvised musical right before your very eyes. With no scripts, no musical score, and absolutely no idea what will happen next, our ensemble of improvisers deliver full-blown musical numbers, drama, and spontaneous choreography in this all-new musical improv show.

Sarah Durham is originally from Campbellsville, Kentucky, but has found a home at FST. She is the Head Writer for FST Sketch and is a member of FST Improv. Sarah studied improv and comedy writing at The Second City in Chicago. At FST, Sarah has co-written Deck the Halls: Home for the Holidays and Deck the Halls: A Holly Jolly Holiday for FST’s Children’s Theatre Series. She has also helped develop The Wonder Years, Outlaws and Angels, and Light My Fire for FST’s Cabaret Series and most recently co-developed Three Pianos. She hopes to continue to write joy into people’s lives.
Kyle Van Frank originally from Memphis, TN, is currently in his second year of FST’s Professional Training Program, serving as the Directing and Education Fellow. Over the past two years, Kyle has performed, directed, and taught in various programs at FST, from Children’s Theatre to Improv to Sketch Comedy, and more. As a Director, Kyle has worked with FST’s virtual reading series and the WRITE A PLAY program. Outside of FST, Kyle has performed and directed across the country in plays, musicals, and other theatrical antics. Kyle is a graduate of The University of Alabama and a member of EMC.
Jim Prosser (Pianist) is the featured pianist with FST Improv. He has arranged and co-developed many shows including: That’s Amoré!, The Wonder Years, Guitar Girls, Unchained Melodies, Mack the Knife, Blue Suede Shoes, Dancing In The Street, By Gershwin, European Cabaret, That’s Life Again, British Invasion, Too Darn Hot, and Older Than Dirt. He has served as Composer/Music Director for the FST School, writing numerous scores for children’s shows such as Deck the Halls, Androcles and the Lion, RAP-Punzel, The Velveteen Rabbit, and WRITE A PLAY Elementary Tours.
Helena Rankin (Pianist) is originally from Ithaca, NY. Helena began her time at FST as a Stage Management Intern, working on shows such as Bright Star and Light My Fire. She is now the current Piano & Composition Fellow. She has played piano since she was a wee child of 5 years old, and her musical focus is in songwriting and composition. She is delighted to once again be playing for the hilarious Improv team!
Will Luera (Director) is the Director of Improvisation at Florida Studio Theatre, Director of Big Bang Improv, and serves as the Artistic Director Emeritus of ImprovBoston. Will is Co-Creator of Healing Moments for Alzheimer’s, a nonprofit organization that provides education advocacy and ministry for persons with dementia and their caregivers. Will tours globally as an improv and theater actor, director, and instructor, performing and teaching regularly all across North America, South America, Europe, and Asia.
Rebecca Hopkins (Host/Founder/Producer) is the founder and producer of FST Improv and the Sarasota Improv Festival. She has also been actively involved in development of FST’s Cabaret productions since her arrival in 1998. During the 2019-2020 Winter Season, she was the Lead Developer for That’s Amoré! and Light My Fire, and was part of the development team for Outlaws & Angels. Previously she was the Lead Developer on The Wonder Years: The Music of the Baby Boomers; Unchained Melodies; Blue Suede Shoes; Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves; Yesterday; American Pie; and Poems, Prayers, and Promises. She has been the head writer on all five Laughing Matters shows. Some of her favorite shows she helped develop include: Mack the Knife; The Prima Donnettes; That’s Life; The Wanderers; My One and Only Gershwin; Hot and Cole; The British Invasion; The Flip Side; and Outlaws and Angels. Mrs. Hopkins serves as Managing Director for Florida Studio Theatre, and as such, is the Chief Operations Officer. Mrs. Hopkins is responsible for oversight of FST’s Administration, including the Business Office, Development, Marketing, Box Office, Front of House, Restaurant, Budgeting, and maintaining the overall quality of FST’s internal management. Mrs. Hopkins serves on the Board of Directors for the League of Resident Theatres and for the Theatre Communications Group. She is the former President of the National New Play Network. In 2012, the Arts & Cultural Alliance awarded Mrs. Hopkins the Cultural Champion Award in recognition of her many years of accomplishment and growth with Florida Studio Theatre. In 2016, Mrs. Hopkins was awarded the Luminaire Award, honoring excellence in creativity, philanthropy, advocacy, and all elements that are keys to future growth of the arts in Sarasota.
