‘Feeling Good’ This Summer

Every time Melissa Giattino and Ron DeStefano, the co-creators of Shades of Bublé: A Three-Man Tribute to Michael Bublé, heard someone perform the song “Feeling Good,” they knew that they had to create a new musical production that put this number front and center.

“The Michael Bublé arrangement of the song is pure perfection,” said Giattino. “It’s James Bond meets Frank Sinatra. What excites me the most about Bublé is that he covers Sinatra’s classics, but also has a modern edge—a perfect marriage for today’s audience!”

Giattino and DeStefano began to research Bublé and discovered the expansiveness of the young singer’s catalogue. Over his 20+ year career, Bublé has done concerts and recorded albums featuring Sinatra covers, contemporary pop hits, Motown, and Rock & Roll.

“We found our hook! We found the different ‘shades’ of music that we wanted to highlight in the show,” added Giattino.

That’s when the pair started envisioning a cast of talented men bringing the three-part harmony sound of the ’50s and ’60s to the work of this accomplished solo artist.

“We don’t imitate Bublé,” said Drew Pournelle, producer of Shades of Bublé. “We celebrate him by combining the many styles of music he performs with soaring harmonies and smooth choreography.”

Whether the cast is singing a cover like Sinatra’s “Come Fly With Me” or a Bublé original like “Haven’t Met You Yet,” each and every song is delivered with Bublé’s unique swing, swagger, and style.

“Audiences can expect to be entertained by three uniquely talented male vocalists paying tribute to the man [Bublé] who introduced a new generation to the classic, big band sound of artists like Sinatra and Tony Bennett,” added Pournelle.

The show’s creators made sure that all of the different sides—or “shades”—of Bublé were represented by the show’s cast.

Danny Drewes plays a sweet, charming crooner type whose voice can reach as high as the rafters. Embodying the relatable nature of Bublé is Christopher McCrewell, who seems to be the voice of reason when the other two get sidetracked. Finally, there is Adam Rennie, a bad boy who has broken a few hearts, but loves to belt out a rock song every now and then.

All three performers are making their FST debuts with this lively tribute show, but they are no strangers to the stage. Rennie played Hedwig in the New Zealand premiere of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, while Drewes and McCrewell have been seen in productions of Pirates of Penzance and The Wiz, respectively.
