FST's Shindig Returns!

December 20, 2022

On February 6, 2023, FST’s Hegner Theatre Wing will be bustling with disco balls and groovy music, as we celebrate the return of FST’s Annual Shindig. This year’s theme is “The Groovy ’70s” and attendees are invited to don their favorite ’70s apparel.

Wendy Grady will chair the once-a-year event, bringing together audience, actors, and supporters to revel and honor the art of theatre. “We’ll ‘take this year’s celebration to the limit!’” she said.

And Wendy Grady knows FST. She and her husband, Bob, are not only Winter Season Underwriters, but they have also been unwavering supporters of FST’s award-winning arts-in-education initiative, WRITE A PLAY, since 2017. And they’re on a first-name basis with many members of the FST staff.

“I am honored and so excited. We love FST,” she said.

The party kicks off with a reception full of far-out appetizers and funky cocktails, followed by the presentation of the Spelman Award.

The Spelman Award is given to a foundation or an individual who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership by providing FST with mentorship, financial, and/or in-kind support.

FST’s Annual Shindig also features a one-night-only performance in the Gompertz Theatre. This year’s live performances will feature some of Sarasota’s favorite artists and is in celebration of the full return of all programming at FST.

Tickets are $300 per person, and the funds raised will support FST’s Playwrights Collective, which supports some of the top playwrights in the country who are working to develop new plays for the FST stage. To date, FST has produced over 30 world premieres.

Just within this Winter Season, FST is presenting the World Premiere of Visit Joe Whitefeather (and bring the family!), which has been in development since summer 2020.

Once again, Gulf Coast Community Foundation has taken the lead in sponsorship for this memorable event.
