Sketch Comedy Writing 101-301
Our three-level sketch comedy writing program, modeled after The Second City style of sketch comedy writing, is designed to help students develop their funny idea into a fully-produced sketch. Students begin by learning brainstorming exercises, pitching ideas, and creating a first draft. Then, in level two, we’ll begin to explore different styles of sketch comedy and how to incorporate these styles into our work. In level three, students will write, edit, cast, and perform their own sketch comedy revue. Throughout the program, students will have opportunities to perform their work in front of a live audience as part of Mixed Nuts, a student performance.
Sketch Comedy Writing 101 | ENROLL
Level one of our three-level sketch writing program will introduce students to exercises and workflows that will help them develop their own original sketch. From brainstorming a topic and pitching ideas to writing a first draft, working with a collaborator, and delivering their final sketch, students will gain an understanding of how to transform their funny idea into a sketch comedy piece.
Sketch Comedy Writing 201 | NOT CURRENTLY ENROLLING
In Sketch Comedy Writing 201, students will explore different styles of sketch such as satire, topical, and absurdist writing. Level 201 students will also have a chance to revisit their previous sketches, evolving them by applying their newly learned styles and techniques. This class culminates in a live performance presented as part of Mixed Nuts, a student showcase.
Prerequisite: Sketch Comedy Writing 101 or equivalent experience.
