Artist Spotlight: Meet Shades of Bublé’s Adam Rennie
November 25, 2022
Over the past six years, Adam Rennie has traveled around the world, sharing and celebrating the music of Canadian crooner, Michael Bublé. This summer, he has been charming FST audiences with hits like “Feeling Good,” “Moondance,” and “Just Haven’t Met You Yet.”
We sat down with Adam to learn more about his experiences on the road with Shades of Bublé, his favorite songs to perform, and what he loves most about Sarasota audiences.
Do you have any special connections to the music or the artists featured in the show?
I grew up listening to jazz. As a teenager, I was obsessed with Ella Fitzgerald & Frank Sinatra…and then along came Michael Bublé. He made jazz feel current again, and I became an instant fan. He is such a powerhouse performer and getting to share his music with audiences never gets old.
How do you go about channeling the magic and energy of Michael Bublé?
What’s great about Shades of Bublé is that we get to celebrate the great music of Michael Bublé without trying to imitate or impersonate him. From the very beginning we realized that the best way to perform the show was for each of us to find our own individual approach to perform the music and have as much fun on stage as possible. Then, the magic just happens as three wildly different performers come together to create a unique sound.
What is your favorite song to perform in the show and why?
I love the Sinatra section of the show. We sing a lot of his biggest hits, including “I’ve Got The World on a String,” “The Best is Yet to Come,” and “Come Fly With Me.” You can’t beat those melodies! They are timeless and you can’t help but have fun singing them.
How long have you been performing with Shades of Bublé? Where are some of the places that you’ve traveled to with the show?
I’ve been doing the show for almost six years now. I’ve seen a lot of America, and cruised around more beautiful islands than I can remember. In 2019, I got to take the show to Australia for a tour to share what I’ve been up to with my home audiences.
This is your first time performing with FST. What have you enjoyed most about Sarasota and its audiences?
Audiences at FST have been incredible. You can feel how much of a community the theatre has fostered in their audiences. After the year we’ve all had, everyone is ready to see, hear, and celebrate live music. It’s a blast!
