Open Positions

PUBLIC RELATIONS ASSOCIATE

The Public Relations Associate serves as the publicist for Florida Studio Theatre and will take the lead role in promoting organizational visibility and institutional messaging. This position involves cultivating and maintaining relationships with press and media outlets on behalf of the company, managing day-to-day operations, and engaging with these contacts. Strong communication skills (including writing, presenting, and pitching) are necessary, as well as the ability to place stories within consumer, industry, and blog press. They will also serve as the lead editor and proofreader of Florida Studio Theatre publications. Throughout all functions, the publicist is expected to contribute a high degree of creativity and initiative while upholding the Florida Studio Theatre brand and standards across all channels.

Organizational Structure:
The Public Relations Associate reports to the Director of Marketing

Responsibilities:

  • Assemble and implement the PR calendar.
  • Manage and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets.
  • Maintain press lists for the theatre.
  • Write and disseminate all press releases and media alerts.
  • Coordinate and oversee all media interviews; and serve as the liaison between artists and the press.
  • Be responsible for all media archiving, both hard copies and electronic.
  • Maintain/build relations with outside organizations by attending local networking events.
  • Develop PR packet for each season, including show blurbs, box office language, and press quotes.
  • Manage marketing call campaigns, including scheduling call campaign support, pulling lists, tracking responses, and managing campaign pace.
  • Oversee and contribute to the digital content of our blog.
  • Oversee in-house publications, including quarterly and weekly newsletters.
  • Execute all patron relations calls and emails, including post-show survey emails, parking calls and emails, dining email surveys.
  • Write and record curtain speeches for our productions.
  • Support overall marketing department in achieving its goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior work experience in a communications or media relations department preferred. Strong internship experience considered.
  • Knowledge of media or public relations practices preferred.
  • Strong writing, speaking, presentation, organizational and interpersonal skills; detail-oriented a must.
  • Must be able to work independently, after direct supervision.
  • Enthusiasm for collaborative team workplace.
  • Self-starter with ability to independently initiate and follow through with opportunities.

FACILITIES TECHNICIAN

Florida Studio Theatre in Sarasota seeks a skilled Facilities Technician to join the 4-person Facilities Department at FST. The work is primarily repair and scheduled preventative maintenance followed by projects as needed.  

 

Monday-Friday work week, primarily 9am-6pm, with availability to come in on weekends if needed to address any Facilities related issues.

 

Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50lb.
  • Skills in plumbing, painting, HVAC, carpentry, and landscaping 
  • Communicating existing and potential issues with Facilities Manager
  • Performing a variety of routine maintenance tasks and prioritizing work orders
  • Ability to work from ladders including a-frame and extension ladders.

DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE FOR INSTITUTIONAL GIVING

Florida Studio Theatre is seeking a Development Associate for Institutional Giving responsible for writing grant proposals to foundations and other grant-making entities seeking support for FST’s major theatre and education programs.

 

Reporting to Director of Individual Giving, this position serves as a key member of the fundraising team. This position researches and identifies new funding prospects; prepares and submits grant proposals and reports to funders; helps to establish and builds relationships with foundations and government funders and cultivates new sources of funding; and maintains a calendar of submissions and other deadlines. The position serves as an advocate in the business community, representing FST at key events and networking opportunities.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least one year’s experience in fundraising, grant writing, or prospect research.
  • Experience identifying and researching corporate and foundation prospects.
  • Ability to compile, report, and analyze information effectively.
  • Strong writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on multiple, diverse priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Experience working in theatre is a plus.

This position will direct 2-4 plays a year, be heavily involved in New Play Development, as well as lead adult classes as part of FST’s School for Adults.

 

The right candidate will be passionate about theatre, responsible, a team player, flexible and confident. Strong writing, computer and management skills are a must.  At least 10 years of professional theatre experience or an equivalent is preferred.

 

This is a full-time, open-ended staff position with a yearly salary. The candidate selected must be available to relocate to Sarasota for the duration of their tenure.

 

Work is traditionally Monday-Friday from 9-6PM but evenings and weekends are necessary when on a show schedule.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, have the ability to take a project from research through to completion and have previous experience in customer service. Theatre experience is preferred.

Duties include: Upkeep of the Managing Director’s schedule, email and written correspondence, and special projects for the Managing Director.  This position also provides support to the FST Box Office, Development and Marketing teams with phone calls (inbound and outbound), projects and mailings as needed.

CASTING AND HIRING COORDINATOR

Casting and Hiring Coordinator

Florida Studio Theatre, a dynamic professional LORT D regional theatre, seeks qualified applicants for the position of Casting and Hiring Coordinator. FST is Sarasota’s Contemporary Theatre, comprised of a village of five theatres located in the heart of Downtown Sarasota and operating 20+ productions over 52 weeks every year.

 

The Casting and Hiring Coordinator works directly with the Producing Artistic Director to facilitate casting and creative/designer hiring for all productions. This role also oversees the initial hiring process for both full and part-time staff.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Casting Coordination for the Winter Mainstage, Winter Cabaret, Stage III and Summer Mainstage Seasons.
    • Writing and advertising audition notices per AEA and AGVA standards with an emphasis on creative and diverse casting.
    • Preparing all audition material and booking of spaces & personnel locally and in NYC.
    • Outreach to other major markets in the US such as Chicago and LA for auditions via tape
    • Organizing and running all aspects of local auditions, including but not limited to: EPAs, show-specific callbacks and understudy auditions.
    • Serving as the point of contact between actors, agents and FST – including reference checks and contract negotiations.
  • Advertising, Interviewing and Hiring of Creative Staff – including, but not limited to:
    • Directors, Choreographers, Music Directors, Intimacy Coordinators, Fight Directors, and Musicians.
  • Staff Hiring
    • Writing, editing and distributing job advertisements, ensuring they are approved by both the Department Head and hiring supervisor.
    • Sorting through applicants, screening resumes across multiple platforms and holding first-round interviews.
    • Scheduling or coordinating further interviews, reference checks and keeping candidates up to date on the hiring process.
  • Other duties
    • Overseeing the Casting and Hiring Pages on the official FST website.
    • Maintaining the FST Housing Chart as it pertains to actors and guest artists.
    • Tracking and filing of Staff Performance Planning Meetings.
    • Managing of Casting and Hiring Intern and their weekly schedule.
    • Casting assistance for FST’s New Play Development department.

 

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of professional theatre experience, preferably in the regional setting.
  • Ability to manage a fast-paced and often urgent casting process while handling multiple projects at one time.
  • Ability to give notes or adjustments in line with Director’s vision in an audition setting.
  • Excellent administrative skills a must.
    • Typing 65 words per minute minimum
    • Competency with Microsoft word, excel, access and other databases
  • Talent for building relationships to maintain a rolodex of both local and national actors, designers, and other creatives.
  • Familiarity with union guidelines, including LORT, AEA, AGVA, SSDC & USA a plus.
  • Experience with standard casting processes, current agent networks and Breakdown Services are all a plus.

COSTUME SHOP ASSISTANT

Florida Studio Theatre, a fast-paced and dynamic professional LORT D regional theatre in Sarasota, FL, is seeking a Costume Shop Assistant for its five-theatre operation. This position works alongside FST’s Costume Shop Manager, interns and designers. 

 

Design opportunities are possible - and likely. FST produces seven mainstage shows, three cabaret shows, a Stage III Series, five children’s shows and many new play workshops annually. 

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Working on alterations and costume builds as assigned
  • Creating and maintaining show-related paperwork such as costume piece lists, action charts, alteration notes, and maintenance lists
  • Assisting in shop and stock organization and maintaining costume inventory
  • Assisting with buying, returns and tracking purchases for season.
  • Stitching and costume construction
  • Assisting with and maintaining hair, wigs, and makeup

 

Strong organizational skills and communication skills are a must - as well as the ability to interact kindly and professionally with artists of varying experience levels.

 

This position generally operates standard office hours Monday-Friday, with some nights and weekends required for events such as rehearsals, tech and runs.

Florida Studio Theatre, a professional LORT D regional Theatre with five active theatre spaces, located in downtown Sarasota, FL is seeking Seasonal Part Time Box Office Assistants to provide excellent customer service to theatre patrons during our re subscription season. This is a fast-paced, high-volume Box Office that services all five of our theatre spaces. We perform shows in all five theatres at least, six days a week. Candidates must have good communication skills with a positive, friendly, and outgoing personality. Must be willing and able to spend a majority of the time on the phones. Must be prompt, reliable, and detail oriented. Must have open and flexible availability and be willing to work a flexible schedule. Must be available to work days, evenings, and weekends. The amount of hours available will change depending on the week.

 

Responsibilities include:

- Sell new subscriptions and single tickets for all FST performances, events, and some rentals as well as renew existing subscriptions - over the phone, in person, and via mail.

- Provide helpful information for performances, pricing options, parking, directions, and seating information.

- Assist with patron relations and resolve complex patron inquiries and complaints.

- Maintain familiarity with subscription and single ticket marketing initiatives, donor benefits, and Florida Studio Theatre events and website.

- Guide patrons though their online interactions when needed.- Keep up a professional appearance in dress and attitude, and have a general appreciation for and understanding of live theatre.

- Assist with the maintenance of patron records; including but not limited to filing, and updating patron records.

- Assist with House Management of our 5 theatre spaces on an as need basis. This includes but is not limited to oversight of the events ushers and patron load in, completing and sending nightly reports, reconciling tickets for the performances and basic cleaning and maintenance of the space.
