Watch for the Season Announcement on September 19!
Here are some of the plays we are currently considering for our 2010-2011 Cabaret Season.
Laughing Matters - Unconditional Surrender • 2011...Will an answer on health care descend from heaven? Will the oversized kissing statue finally find a home on the bayfront? Will the high speed rail put Florida on the right track? These questions and more will be debated when a new edition of Laughing Matters returns to the Cabaret. A musical Saturday Night Live for Sarasota; whether you lean left, right, or circular, there will be no clean getaways.
"Laughter comes frequently" - The Sarasota Herald-Tribune
At The Hop • Do you Doo Wop? Resonating from city streets during the 50s and 60s, a new kind of sound made its way into the American musical landscape and we’ve never been the same. Spend the evening with four boys from the neighborhood for a celebration of unforgettable music from the 20th century. Featuring "The Wanderer," "Yakkety-Yak," "Under the Boardwalk," and many more!
"Doo Wop will live forever" – Richard Foos, Founder Rhino Records
Shakespeare’s Greatest Hits • "Brush Up Your Shakespeare" with the best of the Bard! This tongue-in-cheek musical revue is a collection of songs inspired by the world’s greatest playwright! From relevant to irreverent, from send-ups of Italian opera —"O Sole Othello!"—to takeoffs on films and musicals—"Rockabye Romeo"—it’s ribald, riotous and just plain fun!
"The hits are fun!" – The Pelican Press
No Oscar Not Tonight • by Bill Castellino • Hooray for Hollywood and the memorable songs that didn’t make the cut, according to Oscar. Since the inception of the "Best Song" category at the Academy Awards in 1934, many movie anthems have been overlooked by the golden statuette but not by audiences around the globe. No Oscar Not Tonight pays homage to the many favorites including "Let’s Fall in Love," "Chattanooga Choo Choo," "I’ll Be Seeing You," "Make ‘Em Laugh," and more!
