Professional Theatre Internships - Posted on 12/17/14Florida Studio Theatre, a professional, LORT D regional five-theatre complex in Sarasota, FL is now accepting applications for internships in the following areas:
Work as the Master Electrician on maintaining Lighting Inventory, hang and focus, maintenance on shows and special projects as assigned.
Assist with writing press releases, design of marketing materials, direct mail campaigns and other support. Secondary duty in Front-of-House.
Research grants and grant prospects, assist with special events, small gift campaigns, direct mail campaigns and other support. Secondary duty in Front-of-House.
Gain experience in Literary Management and New Play Development. Writing opportunities possible. Secondary duties in Front-of-House.
Assist in rehearsals and running shows under the Equity Stage Manager’s supervision. FST produces numerous shows every years under the Mainstage, Stage III, Cabaret, Children’s and New Play Development Programs.
Running wardrobe, costume construction, some maintenance and other support.
Identify, locate and build/create props for all productions. As painter, the intern will gain experience in prepping scenery and props as well as theatrical painting techniques as they apply to the paining of sets and props for FST productions.
Have the opportunity to learn and operate the Yamaha digital sound console during production and operate the SFX computerized sound playback system. Work with the production team on locating and creating sound cues for production and other support as assigned.
Work directly with the TD and designers on set construction, strike, load-in, scenic painting, and show running and maintenance
Assist the Casting & Hiring Coordinator and Artistic Director with casting prep, hiring prep, scheduling, production sound research, special projects and general clerical support.
Assist the Director of Education and Tour booking manager and serve as teaching artist or assistant teaching artist at the Theatre, and in area Elementary, Middle and High Schools.
Learn by working hands on with Theatre Professionals in your field. We are seeking summer interns and year-long interns to begin June 1, 2015. A Stipend of $75 per week and free furnished housing are provided. 2015-16 Acting Apprentice Company - Posted on 1/5/15Florida Studio Theatre, a professional Equity LORT D Theatre in Sarasota, FL is seeking quality non-Equity Acting Apprentices for the 2015-16 Season. The Apprentice season runs from June 1, 2015 to May 29, 2016. The Apprentice Company totals 12 members per season.
The Florida Studio Theatre Acting Apprentice Program offer practical and educational training in a professional Theatre environment. The weekly schedule varies, but will include classes, workshops, rehearsals and/or performances and each Apprentice will work a secondary duty in another area of the Theatre such as Box Office, Front of House or Education. Apprentices may also serve on running crews and may earn EMC points by understudying appropriate Mainstage roles. The purpose of the Acting Apprentice program is to help bridge the gap between academic theatre and the professional world and to provide additional training and experience to those individuals who are serious about careers as professional actors.
There is no cost for the program. Apprentices earn a stipend of $75 per week plus FST provides free furnished housing.
Consideration for the Acting Apprentice Company requires an audition. Once you have been invited to apply, the audition requirement can be satisfied by submitting a video audition or by attending auditions in New York or Sarasota.

Director of Education and Touring - Posted on 2/23/15Director of Education and Touring – Florida Studio Theatre, a LORT D regional theatre in Sarasota, FL seeks a Director of Education and Touring to oversee the Theatre's education and touring programs. FST’s Education Department serves over 1000 students a year in more than 25 classes per week in acting, dance, musical theatre, Improv, play writing and more. In addition, the Education program offers a robust full day Summer Theatre program from June – August. FST’s touring activities include the Write-a-Play Program and outreach residencies. The Write-a-Play Program consists of three parts: 1.) The Fall Children’s Show (a play written by adults for kids, performed at the Theatre), 2.) The Playmakers Tour, reaching 30,000 children per year across Florida and the Southeast United States (as well as Israel, Russia and Scotland) inspiring many of them to write plays. In part 3, the winning plays in the 6th grade and under category are performed with young professional actors in an anthology production called UNDER 6, playing at the Theatre to over 10,000 children from Sarasota County and surrounding counties Duties include: responsibility for the artistic quality of FST educational and touring programming, maintain relationships with local schools and students, assist in marketing the programs, hire train and supervise teaching artists and interns, serve as teaching artist, budgeting and program development.
