Return to Improv
Cast and Creative Team
Rebecca Langford (Director) was born. She wandered aimlessly throughout the South before arriving at FST in 1998. After many initial attempts at escape she settled into life on campus as the Managing Director. As such she is responsible for for oversight of all FST operations including its three theatres, 14 residential properties, administrative wing, and the soon to open FST Water Park. In 2001 Rebecca decided that she had too much free time on her hands, so she created the Improv program. This program has been the breeding ground for FST Improv, Vintage Whine, The Sarasota Improv Festival, and a robust training program. But that’s not all....Rebecca is the head writer for FST’s highly acclaimed Laughing Matters Series. She has also co-developed over 20 musical revues for FST’s Cabaret including this season’s That’s Life and Reflections. She is currently hard at work on the upcoming Night Train to Memphis. She believes life is funny because otherwise it would be too depressing.
Jim Prosser (Pianist) has been FST’s resident pianist and composer since sometime in the 1990’s. Before that, he received a music degree sometime in the 80’s. Before that, he was figuring out how to play “Chop Sticks” sometime in the 70’s. Before that, he was learning to crawl - exactly when, he doesn’t remember.
CAST
Christine Alexander has finally acheived the semi-celebrity status she has sought since she was 4 years old, when she moved to Sarasota. She is co-founder and producer of the ever popular e-newsletter: AnythingArts.com. But her true ambition comes to light in theater, as she is one of the founding members of Florida Studio Theatre’s Improv Troupe, (along with Tim Beasley who is almost as funny but not quite as pretty). Christine wishes to thank all of her family, friends and fans and reminds everyone that cash donations are accepted after the show. :) Want to crack up at work? Visit: ChristineAlexander.net. (written by her loving husband, Christopher Alexander)
Tim Beasley is one of the original cast members of FST Improv. He has been involved in the Sarasota theatre community since 2001. He likes to complain about the weather a lot. His real job (the one that pays the bills) is an ER nurse at a local hospital that is NOT Sarasota Memorial. He is still afraid of frogs. He likes to drink, eat, sleep and watch college football. ROLL TIDE!!!
Catey Brannan is happy to be part of FST improv. She has a huge acting career that she’d rather not brag about in this little bio. Instead she would like to brag that she owns an iPhone, can run for 30 minutes without stopping, and won an olympic medal in watermelon seed spitting when she was in third grade during the Kennedy Elementry School Olympics. She is currently a Licensed Massage Therapist with a private practice in Sarasota. In her free time, Catey attends nursing school and revels in all the medical terminology related to poop.
Chris Friday is thrilled to return to FST Improv. Along with being a member of FST Improv, Chris originated and directs the critically acclaimed improv groups Lazy Fairy and Becky’s Rejects. An actor, writer, improviser, and teacher/corporate trainer, Chris has taught at Florida Studio Theatre, Ringling School of Art & Design, and many high schools throughout the state of Florida. Chris Co-wrote the short film Crimes A’ Cookin’, (Best Picture Awards at the 48hr Film Festival and The Gasparilla Film Festival). He was also on the writing team for the sketch comedy revues, Laughing Matters Too and Laughing Matters 2009. Last fall he created and directed the first ever, all athlete improv show, Delicious Sarcasm for game on Nation at IMG Academies.
Darryl Knapp is very sensitive that no pictures exist of him as a child so please don’t bring it up. He was born in Eastchester, New York, although he has told people for years he is from White Plains and still tells that lie to this day and it is yet to get him in trouble so please don’t bring it up. His favorite food is deviled eggs but doesn’t like talking about it because people mock him about it so please don’t bring it up. Darryl played the role of Dancer Number One in a variety show once but didn’t like his pants so please don’t bring it up. He can’t juggle or skate both due to weak ankles so please don’t bring it up.
Angel M. Parkeris excited to be back with FST Improv in her thirty-seventh season. Though these shows end way past her usual bedtime, she musters up the energy to go on with a little gumption and a lot of Red Bull. The next day she just sleeps through those Weary Wednesdays and Somber Saturdays (yes, somber not sober). During the winter break from FST, she traveled the world with the USA Professional Curling Club. If you’re wondering, no, she missed the Olympic Team by a stone’s throw. This year she is on a mission to bring back mood rings, pet rocks and the term hijinks. To this day, Angel still chooses orange as her favorite color.
Adam Ratner is brimming with glee to return to FST Improv! Adam has been a part of the Florida Studio Theatre family since before his conception. He is an avid demolition derby enthusiast and dreams of the day when he is given the keys to the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile. He has an irrational fear of his own shadow, but lives dangerously, having once eaten a french fry off the ground that had been there for more than five seconds. Adam is deathly allergic to most organic substances and if given the chance, he would ask Kenny G for the number of his hair stylist. A poet at heart, many of his most poignant works can be seen adorning numerous restroom walls throughout the Western Hemisphere. Should he eventually grow up, Adam would like to be an astrophysicist… or a balloon animal. When not performing on stage, he retreats to his underground lair, deep within the bowels of the earth, plotting vengeance against his arch-nemesis… Hannah Montana.
Samantha Stern hails from the tropical Island of Staten, New York. She studied improv at Chicago City Limits and has worked professionally with NYC Comedy Sportz, Just the Funny, Walt Disney World, and SAK Comedy Lab. She is a graduate of Cornell University and holds a Master of Fine Arts in Performance from UCF. After several years working around the world as a singer, actress, and educator, she now divides her time between teaching, performing, and changing her son’s poopie diapers.
