Richard Hopkins

Mr. Hopkins is the Chief Executive Officer of Florida Studio Theatre and is directly responsible to the Board of Directors. He oversees the creation & implementation of all FST programming & fiscal planning, including Mainstage, Cabaret, Stage III, New Play Development, Education and Touring. Since his arrival at FST in 1980, Mr. Hopkins has guided the theatre from a small touring company to a nationally recognized regional theatre, which impacts over 160,000 adults & children annually. He has directed more than 40 productions in FST’s three theatres. He has worked at numerous regional theatres including Capital Repertory, Blowing Rock Theatre, TheatreWorks Palo Alto, The Players of Columbus, Delaware Theatre Company, Long Island Stage, and many others. Mr. Hopkins began his professional theatre career as a resident actor with the Asolo State Theatre in Sarasota, Florida. He was a founding director of what is now American Stage Company in St. Petersburg and served as its Producing Director from 1974-1980. Mr. Hopkins has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University. He has served as a Theatre Specialist for the U.S. Department of State to Cairo and Amman, and taught at the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Clown College. He served as the President of the Florida Professional Theatres Association from 1983-1985. He served on the Theatre Panel for the Florida Arts Council. Mr. Hopkins is the recipient of numerous awards including the Arts Leadership Award from the Sarasota Arts Council & the Richard G. Fallon Award for Artistic Excellence from the Florida Professional Theatre Association.

Kate Alexander

Ms. Alexander ministers to the artistic needs of the theatre and its many community and state educational programs: she pioneered the acting training method for children which serves as the foundation for the FST school and co-developed the award-winning WRITE A PLAY program which touches the lives of more than 55,000 children annually. She has directed more than 25 shows, including Ghost-Writer, The Savannah Disputation, I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change, Bridge & Tunnel, Shotgun, Shirley Valentine, Pure Confidence, Wit, Proof, The Exonerated and Brooklyn Boy, and performed leading roles in Golda's Balcony, Master Class and The Occupant. Ms. Alexander is the recipient of numerous acting, directing and public service awards. She co-authored the book Ideas for the Animated Short: Finding and Building Stories. This season she is directing the National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere of Jericho by Jack Canfora and Lanford Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Talley's Folly.

Rebecca Hopkins

Mrs. Hopkins serves as Managing Director for Florida Studio Theatre, and as such is the Chief Operations Officer. Mrs. Hopkins is responsible for oversight of FST's overall Administration, including the Business Office, Development, Marketing, Box Office, Front of House, Cabaret Restaurant, budgeting and maintaining the overall quality of FST's internal management functions. She works in concert with the Artistic Director, and the Associate Director in the creation and implementation of FST's long-range plans. Mrs. Hopkins serves as FST's liaison to other arts and theatre industry organizations. Nationally Mrs. Hopkins serves on the Executive Committee for the League of Resident Theatres and the National New Play Network. Locally, she is on the Board of Directors for the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County and is on the Advisory Committee for the Non-Profit Resource Center at Sarasota Community Foundation. She has also served as a panelist for the Florida Arts Council. In addition, Mrs. Hopkins developed FST's Improvisation program. Mrs Hopkins is actively involved in new play development for the Cabaret having co-created over 20 musical revues including That's Life, The Wanderers, The British Invasion, and Night Train to Memphis. She is head-writer for the highly successful and critically-lauded Laughing Matters Series. Previous to her employment with Florida Studio Theatre, Mrs. Hopkins served as the Audience Development Coordinator for the Largo Cultural Center and as a company member for the Austin Shakespeare Festival and the Zachary Scott Theatre. Mrs. Hopkins received her education from Georgia State University and Eckerd College. In 2005, she was the recipient of the Gulf Coast Business Review's Top Forty Under Forty.

Bruce Price
Production Manager
Mr. Price joined the FST staff in 2002 as the Production Stage Manager and Stage Managed 14 productions. In 2004 Mr. Price was promoted to Production Manager and has overseen the technical aspects of over 75 productions here at FST. Mr. Price has a MFA in Directing from the University of Houston where he studied with Edward Albee, Jose Quintero and Stewart Ostro. He was a partner of Tightrope Production in Charleston, SC from 1991 – 1993. Mr. Price has worked regionally at The Alley Theatre and Stage Repertory Theatre both on stage and backstage. He has found his home here at FST.

Kelli Karen
Production Stage Manager
Ms. Karen has been an integral member of Florida Studio Theatre for the past 19 years. Kelli began at FST as a dance teacher in the education department in 1993. In addition to her classes at FST, Kelli has created and taught outreach programs at The Pines of Sarasota, Girls Inc., and The Boys and Girls Club, and has taught playwriting at numerous local elementary schools as well as our sister city of Dunfermline, Scotland. Stage management credits at FST include Next Fall, Next to Normal, The Savannah Disputation, Cowgirls, Ghost-Writer, Shear Madness, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, The 39 Steps, Beehive: The 60s Musical, Shotgun, Ruined, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Edward Albee’s Occupant, Motown Cabaret, …and L.A. is Burning, and Always... Patsy Cline.

Dan Yerman
Technical Director
This is Dan's sixth season with FST. He has worked on hundreds of shows and has many years of experience in technical direction, lighting and scenic design. He has worked with:Â Southern Scenic, Orlando Convention Center, Universal Studios, Promise Art and Entertainment, and The Mark II: Newmark Scenic, Last Stage out of Town Studios, Patterson Studio', Lakeland Convention Center and Polk Theatre: Playmakers Theatre and USF Theatre. He has designed for Riverfront Theatre, Players Theatre, Golden Apple, Theatre Winter Haven, Richey Suncoast Theatre, and others. Dan has a M.A from Miami of Ohio.

Susan Angermann
Costume Shop Manager
Ms. Angermann started her career in costuming in New York where she designed and constructed costumes for various productions in theatre, opera, film and television . In 1993 she moved with her husband Chris and son Erik to Sarasota, and designed several productions at FST. She returned to FST in January 2009 as Costume Shop Manager and designed Night Train to Memphis, The Wanderers, and That's Life Again in the Cabaret.

James Ashford
Casting/Hiring Coordinator
Mr. Ashford coordinates the casting & hiring of all FST Guest Artists (actors, directors and designers), full time staff members and members of the Intern Company including interviews, pre-employment testing, negotiations and contracting for all artists and employees. In addition to his Casting & Hiring duties, James coordinates play solicitation for FST's New Play Development program and contracts plays for FST's three stages. He received his BFA (cum laude) from Otterbein College in Westerville, OH.

Jessica Mingoia
Assistant to the Artistic Director
Jessica graduated cum laude from SUNY New Paltz in New York where she studied both History and Theatre. She began at FST as a Literary Intern during the 2011 season, and within a year was promoted to her current position of Assistant to the Artistic Director, Richard Hopkins. Jessica has the privilege to work with many departments of the theatre, but her favorite is assisting with the development and creation of FST's Cabaret musical revues. She is excited to start her fourth season at FST this fall.

Nathaniel Stevens
Literary Manager
Nathaniel graduated from Baldwin-Wallace University with a BA in Theatre and minors in both Religion and Psychology. There he directed Tennessee William’s Confessional and received a production of his play Make It Beautiful. In his free time he studies Linguistics in the hopes of finding better ways of analyzing dialogue.

Jason Cannon
Associate Artist
Jason joined FST in 2012 after spending 14 years in St. Louis, MO, as a freelance theatre artist and educator. He is Producing Artistic Director of Ozark Actors Theatre (a summer stock company in Rolla, MO), a proud member of SDC, AEA, and SAG-AFTRA, and a proud alum of DirectorsLab Chicago, Lindenwood University (MFA Directing), Washington University in St. Louis (MA Drama), and Greenville College (BA Theatre and English). He has over 60 professional acting credits, 50 professional and/or university/guest artist directing credits, and is a three-time produced playwright. He co-founded the GreenHouse New Play Festival and the Professional Theatre Council of St. Louis, and is a 7-time Kevin Kline Award nominee (twice for directing, four times for acting, and once for lighting design), and he received the 2010 Kevin Kline Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Play for his portrayal of “Father Flynn” in DOUBT with Dramatic License Productions. He has taught a wide variety of theatre skills to a wide variety of ages in a wide variety of settings, from camps, workshops, and residencies to a three-year appointment as Assistant Professor of Theatre at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He is honored and thrilled to be a part of FST, and looks forward to Sarasota becoming home!

Jim Prosser
Resident Pianist
Jim has been involved in the creation of many of FST’s cabaret productions, including Laughing Matters 2009, Steppin’ Out, European Cabaret, Harry Who?, and British Invasion. He has also written scores for numerous children’s musicals at FST, including The Emperor’s New Clothes, Androcles and the Lion, The Princess and the Pea, Poof, and Immigrant Children. Jim has also been featured as the pianist for the FST Improv Troupe.

Marquita Beachy
General Manager
Marquita originally hales from Akron, OH. She graduated from Bowling Green State University, where she received a B.A. in Music Business. Prior to joining the FST family this year; she worked at the Phoenix Theatre in Phoenix, AZ for 8 years. She has worked in all of areas of the theatre; her areas of focus were in Sales, General Management, Facilities, and IT. Marquita is thrilled to now be serving as General Manager for FST.

Russ Kerr
Assistant to the General Manager
Russ Kerr is from Davidson, North Carolina and is a recent graduate of Emory & Henry College in Emory, V.A. where he majored in Directing. His recent college work includes Helpless Doorknobs (Director), The Marriage of Figaro (Cherubin), and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Leaf Coneybear). His professional work includes Assistant Stage Manager for the Glass Menagerie at North Carolina Stage Company as well as an Internship with Rick Rose at the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia. Today you can find him working with James Ashford and James Lemons in the Casting/Hiring and Company Management departments. He would like to thank his family, his friends, and always the Downer family.

Lee Schlosser
IT/Business Manager
Mr. Schlosser grew up in St. Charles, Illinois. He attended Indiana Institute of Technology for his Bachelor’s degree and did post-graduate studies at UNC Chapel Hill. In 1971, he moved to Sarasota and worked with his parents in their store, the Rainbow Shop. He started a computer consulting company in 1983, which eventually led to his joining Florida Studio Theatre in 1996.

Audra Lange
Marketing Manager
Audra is thrilled to be going into her third season with FST! Audra came to Sarasota from a small town in Wisconsin where she graduated Cum Laude with a BFA in Theatre Management/Promotions and a Dance Minor. Beginning at FST as Marketing Assistant and quickly growing to her current position of Marketing Manager, Audra oversees and coordinates all marketing, advertising, public relations, graphic design, and mailings for the theatre. She also helps out in the Development and Education departments in oversight of their marketing needs. Audra is excited to continue sharing her passion for the arts, and her creativity with the thriving organization of Florida Studio Theatre.

Molly Clancy
Public Relations Associate
Molly is originally from Albany New York and is a recent graduate from SUNY Potsdam. She earned Bachelor’s degrees in Theatre and English – Creative Writing, and a minor in Acting. Molly spent the summer working at Forest Lake Camp, leading the drama program for children ages 8-16, and directing both The Wizard of Oz and Charlotte’s Web. Her recent college work includes directing The Rwandans’ Visit, and working for the College Life Office of Involvement and Leadership as a Leadership & Event Coordinator. Molly is very excited to be working in the Marketing and PR departments at Florida Studio Theatre. She is grateful to be a part of the FST team as she begins to launch her career in the professional theatre world.

Kaylene Torregrossa
Director of Community Programming
Ms. Torregrossa graduated magna cum laude from the University of Arizona, where she majored in Theatre Arts and Gender & Women's Studies. During her time there, she directed the Arizona premiere of Any One of Us: Words from Prison, organized and directed The Vagina Monologues, one of the institution’s largest student-run fundraisers, and assisted in the development of the one-woman show Coming in Hot. Kaylene joined FST as an intern in 2010, and has since joined the staff, assisting in a multitude of areas, including Literary, Education, Box Office, and Restaurant Services. She is incredibly grateful to be furthering her career in such a culture-rich community and to be at FST, facilitating the creation of good art!

Diana Staples
Director of Development
Diana and her husband, Mark, fell in love with Sarasota on their first visit in 2011 and knew immediately that one day they had to live here. She was thrilled when she got the call from Richard Hopkins asking her to join the FST team as Director of Development. Her professional experience has taken her from Rochester, NY, where she had her first job in Development at the University of Rochester to UNC in Chapel Hill, NC, where she was Director of Major Gifts and Special Projects at the Kenan-Flagler Business School and then to Charlottesville, VA where she spent 10 years as Associate Dean for External Affairs at the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia. At that point she decided to change direction a bit and moved to Richmond, VA where she spent 5.5 years as Director of Development at Richmond's new performing arts center, Richmond CenterStage.

Steve Turrisi

In December of 2000, an old college buddy told Steve that he had to visit and see

. In 2004 while managing a bar, a fellow co-worker invited him to an FST Improv class. Since that day, he's been a part of the FST Improv cast. In March of 2011, Steve joined the Development office in the role of Development Associate. Today, he says he's very fortunate to be able to work and entertain all in the same place.

Josh Peters has been working as a teaching artist with the FST summer education program for the past three years and is thrilled to join the theatre year round as the box office manager. Josh graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College and has worked at several theatres in addition to FST, most recently CENTERSTAGE (the state theatre of Maryland).

College
with a double major in Theatre and English. While at Colby, he wrote and staged five one-acts and three full length plays. He also produced several one-acts festivals and productions of Unwrap Your Candy and The Vagina Monologues. He has worked as a writer/director/ASM with Brown/Trinity Playwright's Rep, The Blank Theatre Company, Young Playwrights Inc. and The Acting Loft. He's excited to join the FST as an Assistant Box Office Manager. |

Phyllis Silverman
Asst. to the Managing Director
In 1994, Ms. Silverman and her husband, Sandy, left Pittsburgh, PA and moved to Sarasota. Shortly after arriving, Phyllis found FST and has been working in the Box Office and in the Administrative Office ever since. Phyllis says "I enjoy my job. Every day is different. It keeps me busy. It keeps me young." When not working, she enjoys golfing, tap dancing, reading, and taking an American Sign Language class. Phyllis also enjoys travel and visiting her 9 grandsons and 1 granddaughter.

Karen Kraster
Cabaret Manager/Asst. Box Office Manager
Karen worked with Florida Studio Theatre from 2001-2007 as Customer Service Manager. This year, Karen is grateful to return and will assume responsibilities in Restaurant Management, Box Office Assistant and Special Events Coordinator. I am looking forward to being part of this organization that I feel brings great value and purpose to our community and it’s individuals. Karen graduated from University of Kentucky with Magna Cum Laude degrees in Business Management and Family Development, and is a certified National Yoga Alliance yoga instructor.

Beth Duda

Ms. Duda has been affiliated with FST since 1991 as an actress, playwright, teaching artist, and director. As Director of Education, Ms. Duda teaches a variety of classes for Youth and Adults. Classes include Musical Theatre, Play Production, FST's Playwrighting Workshop, Behind the Scenes and a class for special needs students. She has written, co-written, and conceived several one act plays including, Rumplestiltskin, a modern twist on a classic tale, Pinocchio, and Jack and the Enchanted Beanstalk. Her full length play, Up To Home, was a semi-final selection at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center, and a selected play for the Richard and Betty Burdick Festival of New Plays. Ms Duda is the director of UNDER SIX, the compilation of winning plays written by Elementary School students.

Ms. Smith has been associated with FST since 1993. She serves as the Education Administrator, handling registration and scholarship coordination and also serves as the Administrative Assistant to Kate Alexander.

Adam Ratner

Mr. Ratner has been a part of the FST family for nearly 25 years. A graduate of Florida State University’s Theatre Program, for the past 10 years he has been a member of the Education Staff as a Teaching Artist, actor, playwright, Coordinator of the Young Playwrights Festival and director of the Kids Komedy Club. He has traveled to several countries teaching playwriting for the WRITE A PLAY Program. Adam is also a member of the FST Improv Troupe. |

Natalia Mock
Teaching Artist
Natalia holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from Point Park Conservatory in Pittsburgh, Pa.
She is an Acting teacher in the VPA program at Booker High school, as well as the Costume Designer. This year she won best costumes at Florida Theatre Conference for the world premier of Sleepy Hollow, A Musical Ghost Story.
She has been teaching at FST for several years in many different capacities. She is currently the lead choreographer and dance instructor for FST's summer programs.
Directing credits include: The Visit, The Importance of Being Earnest, All in the Timing, Snow Angel and Other Cool Views, Through The looking Glass, The Good Doctor, Ring Round the Moon, The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-In-The Moon Marigolds, Charlotte's Web, and the Princess and the Pea.
Performance credits include: The Rocky Horror Show(Janet), Urinetown (Little Becky), Arsenic and Old Lace (Elaine), Singin in the Rain(Lina Lamonte), Nine (Mama Madalena), and numerous others.
She has a wonderful 3 year old son who cannot wait to attend FST classes!

Patti Murtha
Teaching Artist
Patti Murtha is an Actor/Director/Teaching Artist who hails from NJ but now lives in Denver, CO. She served as Director of Education for The Shoestring Players, an ensemble children’s theater company, and directed and acted in a number of their touring shows. Patti also worked with the Tony Award-winning McCarter Theatre as the Youth Residencies Coordinator, and as a performer in their touring show The Odyssey Experience.  She served as Program Coordinator and ran Discovery Camp for Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School and Camp for many years. She studied acting at Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, and completed the Meisner training program at the Maggie Flanigan Studio in NYC. She is now a regular company member at The Betsy Stage in Denver.

Liz Pascoe
Teaching Artist
\Liz Pascoe, a Salt Lake City native, graduated with a bachelor degree in Theatre Arts from Southern Utah University. She has performed locally at the Manatee Players and Venice Theatre and has toured with Missoula Children's Theatre. Her passion for the performing arts and teaching have fueled her to pursue a career in expressive art therapy and she is currently working towards her certification. She is thrilled to be working as a teaching artist with Florida Studio Theatre.

Joanna Rekkas

Joanna is enthusiastic in serving as representative of FST in greeting and directing patrons. She has lived and worked in Greece in tourism and has extensively traveled solo internationally. Being of Greek descent, she is a avid devotee of the ancient Greek arts: philosophy, mythology, archeology and theatre.

Mathew Ellis comes to us all the way from Manhattan, Kansas where he is a full-time college student going into his senior year. Mathew is an actor first and foremost, but when he isn't acting, he enjoys reading a good science-fiction book, watercoloring, and watching his favorite TV shows. This is Mathew's first summer/year here at FST and he is excited, and very thankful, for the opportunity to be a part of this Theatre's artistic work. |

Jackson, better known as “Pat.Jak” is an actor, playwright and spoken word artist from Richmond, VA. In 2011, Patrick earned his BA in Drama from Morehouse College, in Atlanta, GA where he also joined the brotherhood of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America, Inc. After graduating from Morehosue, Patrick remained in the Atlanta area performing the role of ”Congressman” in the world premiere of Tea Party at The Ansley Park Playhouse and guest starring in the new hit web series, Between Women. Earlier this summer, Patrick had the opportunity to join the Florida Studio Theatre family as an education intern with FST Summer Camps. He is excited to begin his new journey as an acting apprentice at Florida Studio Theatre! |

Jake Mills

Jake grew up in Virginia, where he attended Christopher Newport University receiving his BFA in Theatre with a concentration in Musical Theatre & his BM in Vocal Performance. He joins FST from NYC where he was part of productions of Avenue Q, Spring Awakening, & Honestly Abe (Off-Broadway). Some of Jake's favorite performances include: The Last 5 Years, The Little Shop of Horrors, Urinetown: The Musical, The Grapes of Wrath, & I Hate Hamlet. He is thankful for all God has done for him & his lovely wife, and is looking forward to his time at FST.

Rachel Porter
Education Intern
Rachel Porter has returned to FST for the third summer in a row as an Education Intern. A Sarasota native, she grew up in the summer educational programs and is excited to teach the methods she learned as a student. Earlier this semester, Rachel taught English abroad in Spain and is looking forward to teaching Spanish upon graduation. She is a rising senior at Brandeis University with a major in Spanish and a minor in Education.

Aaron Watson

Aaron Watson is a native of Phippsburg, Maine. He recently received his degree in Theatre Performance: Directing and Acting from The University of Maine at Farmington. Here he worked in many aspects in theatre from lighting design and set construction, to stage management and acting. He comes to us now after working with The Public Theatre, a professional theatre in Lewiston, Maine where he was the company manager, assistant stage manager, and appeared as the Foley Artist and The Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come in an adaptation of Charles Dicken’s “A Christmas Carol”. Aaron is very excited to be working here in beautiful Sarasota at Florida Studio Theatre. |

Caitlyn Fuoco is originally from Long Island, New York, but just graduated Allegheny College with a BA in Communications and Media Studies. She has been heavily involved in theatre, most recently working on shows like The Laramie Project, How I Learned to Drive, Loves Labours Lost, and Servant of Two Masters. Caitlyn is so excited to be joining the warm community of FST in Sarasota!

Mary Rathell is extremely excited to come to Sarasota to be apart of FST’s intern program! She graduated from Davis and Elkins College with a BA in Theatre Arts with a concentration in Costuming and Acting. Recent costuming credits include Peter Pan, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Legally Blonde, AIDA, and As It Is In Heaven. She is enjoying the opportunity to be able to work with so many talented people and to be down south for some sun!

A Jersey Shore native, Tim recently graduated from American University in Washington, DC, where he earned his BA in Performing Arts: Theatre. Last summer, Tim performed with the Virginia Shakespeare Festival, where he appeared as Launcelot Gobbo in The Merchant of Venice and as an Outlaw and Musician in The Two Gentlemen of Verona. While at school, some of Tim’s favorite projects included producing a New Works Series, working as a costume shop assistant, performing as Pa Ubu in Ubu Rex, and studying classical acting at the British American Drama Academy in London, UK, where he performed the role of Gloucester in King Lear at the historic Oval House Theatre. |

Caitlin Dalton is from Millbrook, New York and is a recent graduate of The State University of New York at Potsdam where she earned her B.A. in Theatre. Caitlin spent her summer working as the assistant to the costume designer of the Long Island Opera Company for the shows Rigoletto and Carmen. Previously, Caitlin was the Production Manager of the annual One Act Play Festival at SUNY Postdam and the Black Box Manger for the Lougheed-Kofoed Spring Arts Festival. Caitlin is new marketing intern for FST and is grateful for the opportunity to start her professional career at such a thriving theatre!

Kate DeWall is thrilled to be back for a second year at FST. Originally from Havelock, IA, Kate is a graduate of the University of Iowa with a BA in Multidisciplinary Science and a Theatre Minor. Miss DeWall’s lighting design was recently seen on FST stages in The Frog Prince, and Under Six/7 Up 2012. Other recent design credits include Salvage: A Recovery in Three Acts (World Premiere) and Humbaba (World Premiere). |

Alison Gondek is from Avondale, Pennsylvania,, and recently graduated from the College of William and Mary with a double major in English and Theatre. While at W&M, she actively participated in the college's stage combat club and many student-run Shakespeare productions. Favorite productions include Cabaret, King Lear, and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. Alison looks forward to furthering her love for the theatre at FST.

Thomas Korp hails from Easton, Pennsylvania and is glad to return for a second year internship here at FST. Tom graduated from Marywood University in 2011 with a BA in Musical Theatre. Production Sound credits at FST include board operation for Next to Normal, Sophie Tucker: Last of the Red Hot Mommas, and Das Barbecu; and he also had the opportunity to program sound effects for Next Fall, The Last Romance, Jericho, Talley’s Folly, and Perfect Wedding. He is most excited for the Gompertz renovations and the opportunity of sound installation experience he has received assisting with it! While not working on sound effects or in the scene shop, Tom enjoys long walks on the beach, writing medieval fantasy, and designing D&D campaigns. |
