FST Reaches Out to Israel with The Jewish Federation
FST took the WRITE A PLAY program to international classrooms in Kiryat Yam, Israel this past December through a partnership with the Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee. Through ongoing collaboration and communication, FST fostered international relationships as well as the emotional intelligence of students, as classrooms from around the world learned the creative process of writing a play together. By incorporating Safari Live, a web-based video-conferencing program, FST was able to provide an exciting and unique opportunity for children and educators in Sarasota and Kiryat Yam to communicate with one another through live broadcasts.
Activities in Kiryat Yam included:
Teacher training workshops and curriculum materials,
- An interactive and improvisational performance inspiring students to write plays, Â
- Intensive writing workshops that teach playwriting techniques,
- A simulcast workshop via Safari Live between a school in the U.S. and the school in Kiryat Yam designed for the two schools to work together to write an original play
- A special performance of plays written by the students of Kiryat Yam
Although FST has returned from Kiryat Yam, communication will extend through the Safari Live web-based teleconferencing. Each component of the WRITE A PLAY program was and will be broadcasted to Kiryat Yam classrooms, including the Children’s Fall Show, Under Six and the annual Young Playwrights Festival. There will also be follow-up Q & A sessions via Safari Live after the performances for the students of Kiryat Yam.
FST hopes to provide Kiryat Yam with the knowledge and skills to continue integrating playwriting and theatre instruction into their annual lesson plans and to carry this knowledge into their neighboring communities for the ongoing benefit of generations to come. Thanks to the support of the Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee, FST was able to create a new relationship internationally through a mutual exchange of ideas, cultural traditions, and artistic experiences, with the ultimate goal being greater understanding and appreciation of different cultures.
